Roots of Bruce is a unique program that aims to educate all who attend about agriculture and food production in Bruce County. Youth gain a better appreciation and understanding of the process involved in producing and marketing food and other products that come from local and Ontario farms. Last year there were 20 learning stations provided by local commodity groups. Each one did an amazing job of sharing valuable information in a variety of ways.
Since environmental concerns have become a significant issue, students may underestimate the leadership of farming as an industry – not only in meeting regulated changes, but also in exceeding targets. These efforts, explained in the Roots of Bruce presentations, include soil conservation and safer use of chemicals and fertilizers that can harm our environment. Farmers can be proud of their accomplishments!
